Polaroid Emulsion Lifts from traveling across country: October 30, 2019- March 26, 2020.The images created from this process are nostalgia incarnate. Each one takes on its own unique ephemeral quality from the emulsion lift process. Not quite an exact replica of reality. Memory folded. Warped and bent. I thought the medium went well with the fleeting qualities of memories made on road trips. They just sort of slip away, except for the big moments. Even those are fuzzy.
Each image is created by removing the plastic sheeting off the polaroid photograph soon after it develops and “lifting” the emulsion (the image) from the backing material by soaking it in warm water. Then gently catching the floating emulsion and reapplying it to a new surface. In this case 6” x 6” acid free 246 pound paper. (Process explained here)▪️
